Maggie Bullard-Marshall represented AttainIt during the July 13, 2016 Capitol Hill HUBZone Briefing. AttainIt was one of 25 federally certified historically-underutilized business zone (HUBZone) firms present. National HUBZone Council Chair & President Shirley Bailey explained the HUBZone program to the 35 legislative staff in attendance. The number of certified HUBZone firms has declined since 2011, and so has federal spending. The federal government spent only 1.83 percent with HUBZone companies in fiscal year 2015 of the required 3 percent.
Ann Sullivan, president of Madison Services Group, shared the HUBZone Council’s policy priorities:
- Provide more business certainty
- Modernize eligibility formulas
- Extend the redesignation period
- Remove 20% cap on metropolitan statistical areas
Janet Campbell, director of the National Development Council’s Washington DC office, shared how the HUBZone program spurs community investment and generates jobs. Several HUBZone companies provided examples of their success stories and what it has meant to their businesses, their employees and their communities. View the entire presentation.
AttainIt was honored to have been invited to the HUBZone Briefing to help explain the value of the program to legislators and their staff. Its owner, Dawn Hall, was recognized as the 2015 HUBZone Owner of the Year and is a staunch supporter. The company helps federal agencies and federal prime contractors attain their HUBZone goals in partnership with these suppliers.
